About
Our purpose
BMES @ UCF brings together students interested in designing, studying, and improving health technology. Our chapter connects people whose classes and research may sit in different departments but whose questions overlap: How can engineering better serve patients, clinicians, and communities?
Through meetings, guest speakers, projects, research connections, professional development, and outreach, we help members find collaborators and turn an interest in biomedical engineering into practical experience. Our aim is to make that path easier to see and easier to enter, whatever a student’s starting major.
Meet the people leading BMES →Why multidisciplinary?
UCF currently lists undergraduate biomedical engineering pathways that combine majors such as mechanical engineering, computer science, or biomedical sciences with related minors. Its biomedical engineering degrees are listed at the master’s and doctoral levels; UCF does not currently list a standalone B.S. in biomedical engineering.
That makes a student community especially valuable. Members can bring perspectives from engineering, computation, biology, medicine, design, and other fields into the same conversation. No single major owns biomedical engineering here.
A UCF 2025–26 strategic investment request proposed creating a biomedical engineering institute and starting a B.S. program. It is a proposal, not an available degree or a promised launch date. BMES can help connect interested students and build momentum while the academic landscape develops.
What we work toward
Connect disciplines
Make room for students with different technical and scientific backgrounds to learn from each other.
Learn by doing
Support hands-on projects, research exploration, workshops, and conversations with people in the field.
Open pathways
Help students find peers, mentors, opportunities, and the next step in a biomedical engineering journey.
Serve people
Keep human needs and responsible design at the center of the work.
